Good Morning Colorado

5:00 AM wakeup to catch the sunrise at the Flatirons in Boulder. We hiked a mile and a half on a rather steep incline of 800 + feet. It didn’t look that steep until we turned around and looked down. We paused to catch our breath and encountered a few adolescent bucks who were quite brave at the site of us even though we were carrying tripods which, could be misinterpreted as rifles. The deer stared at us for a few moments, and went on their merry way across the path to the meadow for a bit of early morning grazing. No pictures though, sometimes you just have to enjoy the moment.

We spent some time looking for the ‘right’ spot but the clouds didn’t quite reveal the sunrise ‘Magic Hour’ we were hoping for. We got some pretty decent shots anyway, experimented with the Nikon CoolPix camera using different angles on the wild flowers with the Flatirons in the background.

We had planned to visit a sunflower field then next day and opted to just go out there after the Flatirons - since were are already up and ready to shoot. We went to 56 Ave and E470 to shoot the sunflowers. We arrived around 8:00 AM and the sun was shining brightly on the 3-4 foot tall ‘ladies’ as they lifted their faces up. After an hour of shooting, the sunflowers seemed to have their own personalities.

We got back on the road and decide to drive through a few corn fields to see if we could get close enough to the landing planes for some shots that made the planes look like they were landing in the corn. We drove around quite a bit but never really getting to that view we were after. It was fun anyway - a bit of exploring the outskirts of Denver International Airport.
