We rarely go anywhere on Labor day Weekend - just too many people everywhere! Three day weekend is an opportunity to go somewhere for three days without having to use up vacation days. I am all about that since we take those really long trips out of the country and use up pert near all my vacation days. The main event for this journey to Casper was to go to Hell's Half Acre. Erich read something about it and we said, why not? I can't seem to take the easy road, I have to stop everywhere along the way. In June we went up to Wind Country and once you get past Cheyenne there is some really beautiful places and we wanted to see more.
I wanted to take the road less traveled and enjoy the journey and we did - took us like 12 hours to get to Casper. It was only 7.5 hours driving time but you know, we had to stop a lot on the way.
First stop - Medicine Bow. Totally AWESOME!! This place is amazing and the best part, no-one was there. It was Labor Day weekend and empty. Maybe I should keep Medicine Bow to myself...
We parked the car and walked down to the lake and we both looked at each other and said "This is the best place EVER!"
The next stop on the itinerary was Fremont Canyon. Somehow were took a wild detour and ended up on a dirt road for miles climbing up and up. We were at Seminole Reservoir. Nice drive but were were a bit unsure where were for a good long while, let's just keep going further and see where it leads!
The road lead out to a main road and we got our bearings and headed on to Fremont Canyon. We just took an alternate route. Totally cool place.
We finally made it to Casper before dark. The next day was the Rotary Falls and Casper Mountain. Photo shoot stop at Rotary Falls and then on for a full day of hiking at Casper Mountain.

We hit Hell's Half Acre on the way home, it is just outside of Casper. The sky was filled with smoke from all the fires and we were concerned with the haze but the photos turned out so not all was lost. We get to the the turn off and parked in the lot. There was a chained link fence keeping us from the edge. What a disappointment! This was the main event. We tried shooting from the fence and could only see part of of it. Walking along the fence to see if we could get a better shot we noticed an opportunity. We looked at each other and went for it. We crawled under. So glad we did, we were able to see the entire valley. So cool and just as we expected. This was a fantastic trip!!
