After we got back form Southeast Asia we wanted the adventure to continue. We planned a weekend trip up to Wind River Country in Wyoming. We have really only been up to Cheyenne since it is not far from Denver.
The plan was to stay in Riverton, head out to Thermopolis and see the Dinosaur Center, on to the Castle Gardens to shoot some petroglyphs and that would fill up the weekend. The Dinosaur Center is 12,000 square feet packed full of fossils, so cool. They had a 106 foot long sauropod found near Douglas and is the most complete Supersaur ever discovered. http://www.wyodino.org
While planning the Wind River Country trip I saw that there was going to be a Pow Wow that very weekend in Fort Washakie - Sweet!! I have always wanted to go to a Pow Wow and all the time I lived in Arizona I never made it to one.
The Pow Wow honoring a gentleman named Morning Starr Weed - he was born in 1913, he had just passed on and was celebrated for his life. The elders danced in his honor.
This was the 58th Annual Eastern Shoshone Indian Days featuring over 700+ dancers and is voted one of the top 10 Pow Wow's in the USA. We had a great time!! Indian Tacos too - of course!!
Castle Garden was out in the middle of nowhere Wyoming, 46 miles east of Riverton. Took us about a hour and a half on the dirt road to get there. No-one was out there and we had the whole place to ourselves. Really fun shoot, heavy polarizer filter to add contrast to the white rocks. The petroglyphs were impressive, and in great shape. There were chain links fences surrounding them to protect them from vandals. As I was looking a the carvings I noticed that there was a hole in the fence just big enough to put my lens through. Thanks for that!! I which more places would do that.
