The Central City area has all kinds of abandon gems. After visiting Nevadville we stopped the Independent Order Odd Fellows Cemetery (IOOF) and drove up a hill to find more abandon stuff and then on the Central City for the best BBQ ever!
It is winter and kind of gloomy, makes abandoned stuff and cemeteries look even more creepy.

On the back side of Central City we happened upon the abandoned Coeur d'Arlene Mine Shaft House. Super fun to shoot all the rusted goodies!
This was an all-in-one operation with every aspect of the mining process under one roof. When in operation you would have seen men climbing down as much as 700 feet of ladder on one side of the great shaft while mined ore or men returning to the surface rose in a bucket on the other side. There were at least six levels where tunnels branched off the main shaft from 200 to 700 feet down. Gold, silver, copper and lead were harvested from the mine.--Source
On to the not abandoned town of Central City. I think Central City is the best gold mining town in Colorado, granted I haven't been to Gunnison, Durango or Telluride yet. I love all the historic buildings, the gambling halls, the textures and peeling paint.
