The Platte River Trail is a great trail that follows the river to Denver. We usually catch it at 88th Ave and Colorado Blvd., which is not too far from the house. We have biked this trail many times south to Denver. Last weekend we decided to ride north instead to see how much of the trail has been completed. It looks like much of the trail has been completed and it goes all the way up to 136th Ave. This was going to be a short ride since we have not been exercising much and are desperately out of shape. We ended up riding about 8 miles. We saw a bunch of Snowy Egrets and some Black Cormorants along the way. The highlight was an American Bald Eagle nest. Super cool!
We decided to go back the next weekend with the camera gear. We did not bring the bikes and parked at 104th Ave. and walked 2 miles to the nest. The nest was high in the tree and my 100 - 400 mm lens got pretty close. Then, the papa Eagle arrived with food for the chick and we snapped away as breakfast was served.
Camera: Fuji XT3 with 100 - 400 mm
I am ready to pick up a 1.4 teleconverter...I just cannot get close enough! I did manage to get some eagle inflight shots, and to my surprise they came out clear. I am still working on those action shots.
