Tulips at the Botanic Garden

 


It was beautiful day at the Botanic Gardens in Denver and the tulips were in full bloom. We are annual members at the gardens and one of the perks is the early reservations.  We were able to enjoy the beauty before all the crowds descended upon us.  The mask mandate for America has been lifted and if you have been fully vaccinated and can now go maskless in public.  We did, but as more people flooded the paths, I promptly covered up.  It is going to take a while to get used to not wearing a mask around others, just as it was to wearing a mask.

I shot with the Olympus today, using the 12-100 mm and the little 60 mm macro lens. Handheld macro is a work in progress.  You can get a lot of blur even with the slightest breeze.  I tried some different angles as I am always trying to make flowers look different.

These shots are with the 60 mm macros lens.  That first photo took me 5 tries to get, there was a slight breeze and getting the focus on the center was extremely challenging. 




This was a very large field of white tulips that I processed in black and white.  I love the film noir style, I just can't help myself!

Arches - Utah

Put on your coat, gloves and fuzzy hat because Utah is cold in the winter. Arches National Park is 119 square miles of over 2000 iron oxide rich, red rock arches at roughly 5000 feet above sea level, just minutes outside of Moab, Utah. We stayed at a cute, old western themed hotel in the center of town. Santa was driving a covered wagon in front of the bunkhouse style exterior aglow with holiday lights. The tiny room was equipped with a mini kitchenette and knotty pine paneled walls and furniture. Grand Teton and Yellowstone - Wyoming!

The second road trip of the year we headed to northern Wyoming to visit the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone.  We stayed in Colter Bay, a village in the Grand Tetons, renting a rustic cabin for 4 nights.  This was the home base for our adventures of exploration in the parks. We had a bit of weather the first two days, after all it is Wyoming and you always have to be prepared for anything.  It was quite cold, around the lower 40s in the day time , cloudy and rainy.  We bring our 'Wyoming Bag' on every road trip (gloves, beanies, and 32 degree jackets). This is not great weather for photography, but we pushed through. We brought the IR converted Lumix cameras just for fun.
