Sunny and 50 degrees and it was about time we get out of the house.  We decided to head down to La Junta to Bent's Old Fort.  Our first time out there was back in 2014.  It is a 3 hour drive from Denver and of course we took the back roads.  It was a trading post and a general meeting place for all sorts of people.  Later it became an outpost to protect against hostile Indians.  The original fort burned down and it was the drawings and measurements by Lieutenant James Albert in 1845 - 1846 which made it possible for the reconstruction on top of the original foundations.  Camera: Fuji Film XT3 Replication of Lieutenant James Albert's measurements

Spring is slowing arriving in-between wicked cold and snow storms.  We are trying to get out of the house more and I took the little FujiFilm XE4 out for the day.  I played around with the with the built in filters and shoot JPEG, so no post processing, which is ok because I do like the vintage style I can get in camera. Petra was the capital city of the Nabataean kingdom from around the 6th century BC.  The Nabataeans were masters of water and build an elaborate systems for capturing the rain water through channels and cisterns. The Romans defeated the Nabateans in 106 CE and Petra became part of the Roman province of Arabia. It was an important center for trade and commerce and after Saladin’s conquest of the Middle East in 1189, Petra was abandoned and lost to history.  In 1812, Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig, disguised as an Arab rediscovered the “Lost City”,  The city was not lost, it was home to the Bedouins.  When the site became a UNESCO site in 1972, the Bedouins were forced to evacuate the site and relocate to the village created for them. Many of the people lived in the caves and rock hewn caves for generations and still camp out in the site today.  One of the conditions of the relocation was granting the Bedouins exclusive concession rights.  

  Disney World was fantastic!  We hit all four parks in four days.  We were all in and stayed at the Beach Club Resort, one of the Disney resorts near Epcot.  It worked out great, we were able to get early access to the parks and transportation access without having to drive anywhere.  I chose not to bring my camera gear and use only the iPhone for photos.  It was quite liberating to not have a backpack and gear to lug around.  Disney required masks for all indoor activities and people were wearing them too.  February is supposed to be the off season and all the parks were just jam packed with people.  I can not even imagine what it is like in the summer.  Our first day was Animal Kingdom and it was amazing! Pandora was incredible with the hanging rocks and the Flight of Passage virtual ride, where you ride a banshee - unbelievable! Africa was pretty cool too and then there was Asia and, and...just super cool! Felt like we were traveling...
